In autumn 2021, the Senate set up the “(Free/Libre) Open Source Software” working group (AG FLOSS for short). The initiative came from the curia of students, who observed the problem of the availability of digital tools, especially in school classes. Against this background, the AG FLOSS discusses in an interdisciplinary composition the political implications of new financing models (e.g. subscriptions) of software companies, the lock-in effect and the progressive monopolisation in the field of software production. As an alternative, there is the use of freely available and open source programs, which, however, often go hand in hand with an increased need for prior knowledge. For this reason, the AG FLOSS has initiated courses and in-house training opportunities and would also like to offer a forum for ongoing exchange within the AG. Members of the AG FLOSS are: Clemens Apprich, Media Theory Maximilian Bailoni, University Library Stefan Bedek, IT & Digitisation Florian Bettel, Cultural Studies Jonas Bohatsch, Coding Lab Birgit Hertel, Computer Studio Florian Höbart, IT & Digitisation Christoph Höschele, TransArts Andrea Klaura, base Angewandte/Coding Lab Joseph Knierzinger, student Christopher Matzka, IT & Digitisation Astrid Poyer, Art History Charlotte Reuß, Art History Konrad Strutz, Art and Communication Practices * * * Image: The Safecast bGeigie Nano is a mobile, GPS enabled, logging, radiation sensor.
