A guest lecture for the course "On Images and Pictures" by Caroline Heider at the Department Applied Photography and Time-Based Media. Course details: https://base.uni-ak.ac.at/courses/2024S/S04560/ The main aim for the lecture is to explain the basic principles of machine learning and how neural networks work. This is then set in context of image recognition and image generation algorithms and - in the follow-up discussion - on what the body of the produced image is in terms of the machine's internal representation of the image.
