Textiles in public space

Textiles are often overlooked as significant contributors to the creation and transformation of space. They choreograph, divide, filter, connect, enable various situations–transforming architectural spaces by adding layers of meaning and functionality. As temporary structures or separate elements, they change the way a space is perceived and used, influencing how we interact with our environment and each other. 

In this seminar, we will explore the interplay between textiles, architecture, and social interaction by examining the extensive field of artistic research. Our exploration will feature artists and practitioners who incorporate textiles as either method or subject.

The first featured artist is Hana Miletić, who translates temporary repairs to buildings and objects observed in various streets into woven fabric. Her work raises questions about the care of public spaces and the gendered notions associated with such work.

This seminar marks the beginning of a series dedicated to mapping contemporary textile research positions. It will include public lectures and workshops with visiting artists.

Artist Talk on Oct 30th with Hana Miletić, 18:30, FLUX 2

Participants will be asked to either formulate their own research interest, individually or in groups, - or -  conduct an interview with an artist or researcher.

The seminar will be conducted in English.
