Artist-run and self-organized exhibition spaces play a vital role in supporting artists' practices, particularly at the early stage of their career. Often marked by alternative and non-hierarchical modes of organization and economies of exchange, many of these spaces support experimental or unrepresented practices and discourses while proposing models for social and cultural interaction. 

The course will look at the conditions, organizational models, curatorial approaches, and different roles of artist-run and self-organized exhibition spaces in Vienna. We will visit these spaces and meet their founders and organizers to get an insight into their practice and structures, and see how these spaces manifest themselves.

UPDATE: Our first meeting will take place on October 13, at 11am (NEW TIME). The meeting will take place at Kunstverein Kevin Space (Volkertplatz 14, 1020 Wien). More information on our weekly meetings will follow soon.

Students are required to regularly attend the course and to engage in our readings as well as the meetings and discussions in the resepctive spaces.
