Description
Intro Workshop series on data management for climate and energy research projects This practice-oriented workshop teaches the fundamentals of research data management (RDM) – specifically tailored to the requirements of interdisciplinary climate and energy research involving large, complex and sensitive data sets. Topics include: - The importance of RDM for reproducibility, FAIR principles and open science - Challenges in dealing with heterogeneous data sources, time series and data protection - The complete data lifecycle: from planning to archiving - Creation of data management plans (including FFG DMP template) - Typical data formats and standards (NetCDF, HDF5, CSV, JSON) - Documentation and metadata standards (e.g. ISO 19115, CF conventions) - Quality control, versioning and data integrity - Strategies for storage, exchange and secure backups - Use of repositories such as Zenodo and PANGAEA - Legal aspects, licensing and data governance - Tools and automation (including RDMO, Git, Jupyter, Snakemake) - Best practices and real-life project examples The workshop is aimed at researchers, project coordinators and data managers in FFG, EU and interdisciplinary projects related to climate change and the energy transition. In addition to theoretical basics, numerous practical workflows and templates will be presented that can be used directly in your own project environment.
