Curriculum Vitae

Sofia Bempeza is an artist, educator, writer, researcher, curator and a poet (She-Dandy). Her* work (experimental writing, poetry, performance, collective curating) is focused on the politics of dissent, queer-feminist art and knowledge practices as well as decolonial educational practices. She publishes poetry, theory, and critical fabulation in multilingual magazines. Her* theoretical and artistic research concerns the history of art strike(s); feminist story-telling, collectivities and polyphonic aesthetics; the cultural strategies of the far right and the anti-gender narratives. Bempeza has been working in collaborations within groups and art collectives in Athens, Berlin, Zürich, Turkey (Ankara, Izmir, Batman). She co-founded and co-curated the Queer-feminist Film Festival Aphrodite* in Athens (2018–2020), she was a board member of Shedhalle Zürich (2014–2018), and is a co-founder of The Hidden School (Aegean Sea GR/TUR, 2023-on going). Also a member of the Alliance for Critical Scholarship in Solidarity. Teaching and research practice: Professor for Art and Communication Practices, Institute of Studies in Art and Art Education, University of Applied Arts Vienna (2023 - currently), Research scientist at Diotima Centre for Gender Rights and Equality (2023); Adjunct Jr. Professorship for Cultural Theory, Leuphana University Lüneburg (2020); Lecturer at the Institute of Philosophy and Sciences of Art, Leuphana University Lüneburg (2018–2021), at F+F Kunst und Design Zürich (2018) and at Zürich University of the Arts (2011–2017); Language-facilitator at the Autonome Schule Zürich (2013–2015) and art teacher at the Municipal Cultural Center Petroupolis Athens (2003–2005).
