dérive – Society for Urban Research was established in Vienna as an independent and interdisciplinary network focusing on critical urban research. Since 2000 dérive publishes the international magazine ‘dérive – Magazin for Urban Research’. Among other activities like exhibitions, lectures, discussion panels, workshops and writings ‘dérive - Society for Urban Research’ organizes the annually festival urbanize! Int. Festival for Urban Explorations since 2010, which aims to foster interdisciplinary knowledge transfer, exchange of ideas, multi-perspective thinking and collective debate on current urban issues between urban researchers of all disciplines, artists and urban activists.
This year, AIL is hosting the opening night of the festival: After a brief overview of the 2025 festival program, dérive editor Michael Klein will guide us through the themes of the dérive anniversary editions N°100 and N°101. Then, performance artist Lars Moritz will take us on a journey through time: 25 years of dérive – urban research? Who turned that clock?!
