Description

Participatory Lecture Performance in course of the Symposium Dance – Resonance. Artistic Attunement in Motion mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna 25 September 2025 At the invitation of the Gesellschaft für Tanzforschung, MUELLER-DIVJAK presented DANCING WITH MOLECULES as part of the symposium Dance – Resonance. Artistic Attunement in Motion at mdw Vienna. The participatory lecture performance translates key questions of SENSING LIVING SYSTEMS into a performative setting. Drawing on earlier scenographic studies such as SENSING THEORY and SYS DANCE, the format explores how scent can function as a choreographic impulse. Olfactory stimuli guided movement, proximity, and spatial interaction, inviting performers and audience alike to experience how sensory cues influence embodied decision-making and relational dynamics. Rather than illustrating theory, the performance created a shared sensory situation in which resonance, dissonance, and co-presence became tangible. Scent acted as an invisible but structuring agent, shaping kinesics and proxemics and prompting reflection on how perception affects behaviour within social systems. The presentation contributed a multisensory and systems-oriented perspective to the symposium’s focus on resonance in dance and performance, situating olfaction as an active component within movement. #SLS #SENSING LIVING SYSTEMS #FWFPEEKProjekt #MUELLER-DIVJAK Jeanette Müller, Paul Divjak, Alexandra Graupner, Anna-Maria Irgang
