Curriculum Vitae

Max Moswitzer is a multimedia artist, designer, and researcher based in Vienna, whose practice investigates the intersections of virtual worlds, game engines, video works, and metaverse culture. Since the 1990s, he has been developing experimental projects that transform “free” or discarded digital objects into new architectures, installations, and interactive environments. His works often blur the boundaries between physical and virtual space, drawing attention to the cultural, aesthetic, and material residues of digital networks. Moswitzer has exhibited widely at major international institutions and festivals, including ZKM Karlsruhe, Transmediale Berlin, Kunsthalle Wien, Ludwig Forum Aachen, and Ars Electronica Linz. His video works extend his exploration of virtuality into moving image, often combining machinima, found digital material, and game-engine sequences to create experimental narratives that question perception, authorship, and the aesthetics of the network. In addition to solo projects, his career has been shaped by a number of key collaborations: with filmmaker Chris Marker, he co-created Ouvroir, a virtual museum and archipelago in Second Life; with Roy Ascott and others, he contributed to LPDT2 (La Plissure du Texte), a reimagined networked narrative environment; and together with Margarete Jahrmann, he has produced a body of experimental media art and game-related works under the banner of Ludic Society. Moswitzer was also a member of the artist group You Never Know, expanding his practice into collective, performative, and socially engaged contexts.
