September 2024 – January 2025, Art Cabin, Angewandte Interdisciplinary Lab How does cognitive overload feel? SENSING THEORY – SHREDDERING COGNITIVE OVERLOAD explores the ungraspable nature of systemic complexity, making it physically tangible. Part of the Series of Scenographic Studies by MUELLER-DIVJAK, this installation consists of shredded academic texts on systems science, systems awareness, and artistic research. Texts that were originally meant to convey knowledge lose their structure and meaning through fragmentation - transforming into a haptic, immersive material that visitors can literally wade through. The space is both archive and disruption, a site where theory is no longer read but felt. Among the shredded pages, a sound installation plays readings from Ludwig von Bertalanffy and other key figures in systems theory. Visitors are invited to move through this field of knowledge, touch it, interact with it, and reflect: When does information become overwhelming? How do we navigate complex systems? The spatial setup of the installation was supported by Taras Komisariuk and Michael Ellinger, in collaboration with the Bertalanffy Center for Systems Science (BCSSS).
