Laboratory of Resilience - Choir When there is despair, we sing.
When there is confusion, we sing.
When there is pain, we sing.
When we feel lost, we sing. We sing not to escape, but to meet what is here, together.
We sing for hope, for connection, for the quiet remembering of what it feels like to be held: by each other, by breath, by sound. In singing, something begins to soften.
The voice opens a path back to the body,
and the body, in turn, remembers how to listen, how to feel, how to belong. We gather our voices to awaken imagination,
to remember that it is vast, alive, and shared,
especially when we are held in a field of care. This is a space to arrive as you are.
A space to be carried and to carry.
A space to sound, to move, to breathe, to be. In this two-hour session, I will gently guide the group through layered grooves, simple melodies, spoken word, and embodied movement, weaving a collective soundscape where every voice has a place. So, come as you are and leave a little more connected. Golnar Shahyar is a vocalist, composer, and performer whose work moves fluidly between concert, music theatre, opera, and interdisciplinary performance. Her debut album was nominated for the German Jazz Prize, and she was awarded second place in the Live Act category of the Austrian Jazz Prize. With a strong focus on collaboration, she has been involved in numerous dance, theatre, and cross-disciplinary productions, creating and performing music that engages closely with movement, narrative, and space. Alongside her artistic work, she is active as a music pedagogue, working with professional and non-professional musicians and singers of different ages. As an experienced ensemble and choir director, she creates collaborative and inclusive spaces that support the development of vocal technique, musicality, and individual artistic expression, with a focus on the voice as both an instrument and a means of communication. In this context, she is currently developing Laboratory of Resilience – Choir, a project conceived as a space for community building, creative exploration, and mutual care through collective vocal practice. (German version below) COR! is a university-based choir project that focuses on bringing together members of Angewandte – students, staff (artistic, scientific and administrative), as well as alumni and retirees – to explore vocal music and collective sound making in an open and dynamic setting. COR! is open to everyone regardless of musical ability. COR! will take place at the AIL, in the cashier hall of the Otto Wagner Postsparkasse (PSK), we are delighted and excited to come together in this special setting. The name COR! plays on Chor (German for choir) and Cor blimey (a British exclamation of surprise and delight), reflecting the project’s energy and inclusivity but also exclamation and claiming of being outspoken and vocal. COR! is not a traditional choir. Instead, it expands the notion of collective sound-making to include discourse, voice performance and breaking down the theories behind making sound with bodies, together. Each monthly session features a guest contribution (lecture, workshop, or provocation) followed by collective singing and/or embodied practice. Sessions may include chanting, rapping, singing coaching or movement and stage presence, how to raise the voice, voice centric technology and more. Every participant is free to decide how far they want to go, drop ins and drop outs are always possible. COR! is supposed to be a space and time of joy, exploration, safety and connection. In an era of needing more gathering of people in an analogue, non academic, non hierarchical environment – COR! is providing a space which is accessible, playful and centering cathartic, liberatory practices. COR! is a collective and self organised endeavour. Want to join in? Next Dates: Upcoming dates: 17 June 2026 Dates can be joined individually.
