2015, ci_nos, Lichthof A, die Angewandte, Wien (AT) The sound-art-lab of the DIGITAL ART department deals with music and sound without claiming to be a sound studio. Its research activities focus, among other things, on the spatial plasticity of what is heard, which, in contrast to spatial acoustics, makes sound a material for architectural action; on the strategies of musical composition, from which algorithmic and nonlinear concepts of narrative can be derived; and on the ephemeral, which serves as a template for dynamic experiential spaces. The insights gained are transformed into an art form that can be received multidimensionally. This approach neither includes nor excludes sound itself as an artistic material, refers mostly to concepts of the musical, but above all aims to free sound from " the need to sound". The works of DIGITAL ART students shown in the exhibition "ci-nos" are intended to give a small insight into the activities of the sound-art-lab, in which numerous works in such diverse formats as radio, performances, media sculptures and installations have been created in recent years as part of project-oriented teaching under the conceptual direction of Klaus Filip and Nicolaj Kirisits.
