This article shows how copyright legislation affects scientific research and ed-
ucation. Current problem areas in the field of digital education, which are also
addressed by the image+ Platform for Open Art Education research project, show
that the recent copyright law revision is inadequate. Within this framework, the
issues are examined in greater detail, along with potential solutions. Furthermore,
this paper highlights a potential need for action to guarantee the long-term usability
of the picture database on a cross-institutional level.
