Text

Welcome back to a new episode of Becoming the product. Today, I am interviewing Alex Quicho and Sophie Publig in the context of my most recent research project on the figure of the Critical Internet Researcher. Drawing on examples like Geert Lovink and Joshua Citarella himself, I analyzed how critical internet researchers have shifted their strategies over time to present their work and seek greater visibility, transforming themselves into what Geert Lovink coined “virtual intellectuals.” But what happens when the Critical Internet Researcher becomes a girl online? How is this media figure navigating the spheres she researches, oscillating between fascination and possible affronts? Please refer to the previous episode of Becoming the Product if you wish for more context and insights.
