Appearing in the collisions of colonial conquest, reinterpreted by Marx as the nature of the capitalist commodity, explored in psychoanalysis as a substitution for the sexual object: the fetish is a key concept of modern discourse. What is a fetish, and what’s at stake in thinking about it? While making an installation focused on the medium of film, we explore these questions in Marxism and psychoanalysis. The idea is to let the voyeuristic camera reveal the fetish object as it’s being charged.
