Text

Outer Woman is artistic research that investigates and develops imaginaries surrounding the human reproductive complex. The project departs from the premise that ectogenesis – the fabrication of a being outside a female body – is not science fiction but an actuality. Situated between language-based art, performance and a general studies of feelings, the project works with a wide range of approaches to create fables, performative settings and conversations around family-un/making, non-fertile subjectivities and co-creation. Broadly speaking, the methods fall under the following four categories: Semi-fiction - a literary, speculative exploration of actualities as art; Maieutics - a dialogical approach of inquiry; Performative – analysis of forms through performance and role play; Feminist thought – a queer criticality aimed at challenging the distribution of gendered roles in society. The project invites midwives, evolutionary biologists, and practitioners from the medical field into the research apparatus.
