Text

The article presents we-speak, a live practice of speaking and writing exclusively in the first-person plural. Originally conceived for a durational performance, this linguistic constraint has since been tested in workshops, academic settings, and everyday situations. Drawing on physics, where resonance describes the selective response of a system to an external force matching its frequency, the article deliberately borrows and displaces this concept to examine a series of exercises in and with language. Written from the perspective of a writer-artist and a choreographer, the article asks: What happens when ‘I’ and ‘you’ are suspended? What forms of resonance and responsiveness does this grammatical hack enable — or limit? Can it contribute to transforming the ‘I’ through the ‘we’?
