General Text

Many modern thinkers and artists have envisioned a future where humans, liberated by machines from mechanical and boring work, will be engaging only in play and art (...). But if automation of cultural production by AI continues, eventually it will be these AI playing and making art — not us. If all creative and knowledge work the domain of AI, what will be left for humans? What will be the purpose of our existence? Watching endless films created by AI, listening to AI-generated music, and being driven in driverless cars around AI-generated cities? Lev Manovich, 2018 We are currently dealing with an unprecedented revolution in the digital world, while facing multiple civilizational and environmental global crises and challenges. The effects of the rapid multimedia AI impact on the individual, on perception, societies, countries, regions and the entire globe are beyond human imagination. We are all entering unknown territory, functioning as test dummies in an oversized field experiment of the radical unleashing of content. Image, text and sound: nothing is evidence of what actually happens. Everything is potentially possible – and that, in an already challenged, destructive, overburdened world. Will we increasingly perceive the world only in categories, in patterns that the AI prescribes to us, that it drives into our consciousness with every click? How can we cope with this digital revolution and promote sense awareness, direct experiences, and awareness for complexities and interdependencies – for living systems? Well, we are not sure, at least we need to give it a try ... MUELLER-DIVJAK, 2023
