Text

2016, Infected Structures, Sokolowsko (POL) The aim of the research at the sound_art_lab (University of Applied Arts Vienna / Digital Art) is to transform strategies of time-based art, such as sound, into the field of visual art. The project, to which we were invited by the In Situ Contemporary Art Foundation, founded by the artists Bozenna Biskupska and Zybmunt Rytka and located in the old sanatorium of Sokolowkso, gave our students the opportunity to create site-specific works. These two conditions were the starting points for the development of the students' works. Azalea Ortega (Heterotopia) and Ruth Zimmermann (Hydrotherapy) began an art-based dialogue between the Sokolowsko Sanatorium and sanatoriums in Mexico and Austria, while others such as Magdimus (Phthtisis), Raphael Haider (Gram-Staining), and Felix Dennhardt (Blue Henry) focused on the disease that was once treated at the Sokolowsko Sanatorium. Another group of students such as Laurus Edelbacher (Wallhack), Cagdac Cecen (Limbo), Johannes Lampert (Trachea) and Johannes Schrems (pipe-ryhtm) tried to discuss the specific geometric situation and materiality of the architecture of the Sokolovsko Tower. Nikita Zhukovskiy (formation) and Severin Gombocz (brick) put a new element into the existing spatial structure. These irritations were intended to give visitors the freedom to see qualities of the same building that they may not have seen before. The different interpretations of the "site-specific", were overlaid with different temporal, sonic and spatial concepts, as shown above. This led us to the final works and formed the exhibition infected structures.
