Text

2017, Fenstersturz, Lichthof A, University of Applied Arts Vienna (AT) The exhibition Fenstersturz presents works by students created in the seminars of Klaus Filip and Nicolaj Kirisits in WS 16/17 and SS 17. The content focus of this year's events was the production of sound objects, with a special focus on different time scales, and, in a further step, the linking of these objects with spatially gestural figures. The original connection in acoustic instruments (in which sound is generated by a spatial movement), between the timbre, the shape of the sound and the spatial gesture created by this generating movement, is not a priori present in computer music. The meaning of the form-creating spatial gesture in computer-generated music changed. It is no longer necessarily at the beginning of the sound production, but can, as exemplified in this exhibition, be connected with a previously produced sound object, thus manifesting itself again as a creative element, but as a parameter not necessarily shaping the sound, but independent, as pure movement in space. In the Lichthof A of the University of Applied Arts, 16 window panes equipped with sound transducers were placed freely in the space. Each window pane could be played individually. The window panes thus became sound sources distributed throughout the space. This collectively developed spatial configuration was played with sounds and sound movements during the exhibition.
