Text

Malpractice is an artist duo formed in Vienna in late 2024 by Chiara Kristler and Marcin Ratajczyk, both students of Digital Arts in the class of UBERMORGEN at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. The duo builds functional systems (AI agents, live performances, films and interactive environments) to observe how human communication and societal structures adapt to algorithmic logic. The name is the framework: a deliberate, yet playful departure from standard protocols and operational norms. Projects begin with situated observations that are turned into self-(de)regulating systems. Much of the work runs on a method the duo calls prompted perspectives: a language model is given a worldview and run continuously against live material, so that a way of seeing becomes something an audience can enter, test and leave. Inside these systems, feedback loops make the audience active participants. Works include Flynn (2025–ongoing), the AI agent admitted as a student to the University of Applied Arts Vienna; the code opera Everything I Know About Dying I Learned From You (2026 Wuhan Biennale); the interactive performance All Inclusive AI Hell Cruise (2026); the film Fatigue Archive (2025); the AI opera Don't Be Such An Image (2025); and The News (2026). Solo exhibition at Francisco Carolinum, Linz (2025–26); S+T+ARTS Prize nomination (2026); Special Recognition, Art Center Nabi (2026); Rauschenberg Residency at ZKM Karlsruhe (2026–27). https://malpractice.network
