Text

The Jacket of Lightness is part of the exhibition: Under the skin of the pasts and futures - or: How to inhabit a Volkskundemuseum, which resulted from "Introduction of Artistic Strategies's" residency at the Volksskundemuseum Vienna (VKM). The history of humanity shows that prosperity comes in waves, but steadily increases in the long term. Inspired by wave phenomena such as solar cycles and the deepest black of black holes, the question arises: What does it mean to embody the feeling of a downward trend and endure the uncertainty of when the upward movement will begin? This project demonstrates how light the relief can feel after experiencing a low point. A tailored jacket, designed to be worn for a certain period, creates a feeling of lightness when taken off. The heavy jacket is accompanied by instructions for visitors on how to use it.
