(S)TABLE is a brutalist timber table constructed from structural timber bricks. The project explores mass, modularity and load-bearing capacity through an architecture-driven approach to furniture design. The series comprises two tables: one at standard working height and one designed for standing use. Both take advantage of the modular dimensions of the timber bricks by NiTO, which determine the tables’ proportions and overall geometry. Together, the two tables are composed of 40 full and 6 half bricks and weigh a combined 550 kilograms, resulting in an object with unprecedented load-bearing capacity for a piece of furniture. The timber bricks are inherently designed to interlock. This characteristic became the starting point for the project, informing a glue-free, mechanically interlocking structure in which stability is achieved solely through weight, geometry and friction. The tables have been finely sanded and finished with a natural, UV-resistant coating, preserving the material’s raw character while ensuring durability.
