27 November, 2024 NIKOLAUS GANSTERER RECEIVS THE CITY OF VIENNA AWARD FOR FINE ARTS 2024 The City of Vienna Award honors outstanding achievements in the fields of architecture, visual arts, literature and music. It is endowed with 10,000 euros and recognizes the essential work of the winners during the last decade. Departing from a foundation in drawing, Nikolaus Gansterer has continuously evolved his practice over the years. Through the capturing of traces, the creation of seismographic recordings, choreographic notations, and abstract thought figures, he navigates the intersections of art and science, advancing towards an idiosyncratic and contemporary form of artistic research. By devising his own systems of signs, he diagrams events in their complexity and dynamism, occasionally expressing them through performances. His work is further distinguished by diverse collaborations with other artists and scientists, underscoring his dedication to exploring intersections and transcending disciplinary boundaries. The awards will be presented during a festive ceremony at the Vienna Rathaus on November 27, 2024.

Würdigungspreis Bildende Kunst Mag. Nikolaus Gansterer Ausgehend von der zeichnerischen Praxis hat Nikolaus Gansterer sein Werk über die Jahre konsequent weiterentwickelt. Mit dem Festhalten von Spuren, mit seismografischen Aufzeichnungen bis hin zu choreografischen Notationen oder abstrakten Denkfiguren bewegt er sich zwischen Kunst und Wissenschaft. Dabei entwickelt er eigene Zeichensysteme und veranschaulicht Ereignisse in ihrer Komplexität und Dynamik oder bringt sie bisweilen in Performances zum Ausdruck. Sein Schaffen zeichnet sich zudem durch die vielseitige Zusammenarbeit mit anderen Künstler*innen und Wissenschaftler*innen aus. Das unterstreicht sein Anliegen, an verschiedenen Schnittstellen und über disziplinäre Grenzen hinweg zu arbeiten.
