Description
The Sound_Art_Lab of the DIGITAL ART department enables working with sound as a spatial sculptural element. Sound is to be understood as a spatial event with aural horizons. Sound-Effects, created as spatially defined interactions of sound waves with architectural objects, are understood as elements of this aural space. Through artistic productions, strategies are to be developed to acquire an access to sound as architectural, spatial material, in an enactive listening situation.
In addition to a 2-channel studio system, a 16-channel Ambisonic system is available in the Sound_Art_Lab recording studio. The workflow in the studio was designed in such a way that recordings with Ambisonic microphones (3d Sound Field Recording) can be mixed with single-channel recordings that are spatially placed in the lab to create a common acoustic-spatial situation. The Ambisonic format used allows the resulting spatial works to be played back on different speaker configurations (Sound_Art_Lab - headphones - free installation - VR).
