This immersive soundscape project explores the world of crows in Vienna, taking place on a grand tree in Rustenschacherallee. It is seen as a city intervention, moving the fake sound with real crow recordings into the daily life in Vienna. Will people notice? Will people stop by and listen? Will people feel it and empathize with it from a hidden world?
Crows, known for their high intelligence and adaptability, coexist alongside humans in urban environments, often eliciting eerie sounds and carrying ominous connotations. Through an in-depth observation of winter crows along the Donau river in January, Zhang unveils a hidden and captivating aspect of crows that often goes unnoticed in everyday life.
To experience the project, simply step into the tree's shade, find a comfortable position (standing, leaning against the tree, sitting, or lying on the meadow), and allow yourself 5 minutes of stillness. As you immerse yourself in the soundscape, you will witness the vibrant nature come alive through your sense of hearing. Drawing closer to the crows, you'll begin to empathize with the emotions embedded in their vocalizations and uncover the subtle signs of life that abound.
