text

This conference contribution explores a fusion of science, art, and technology, allowing participants to experience the world conceptually from the unique perspective of butterflies. The discussed project Butterfly}Pieris{Effect holds potential for both educational and artistic exploration. So far, the art installation was well received in two exhibitions in the finalist exhibition of the Global Digital Arts Prize in Singapore and in Vienna. By means of digital art techniques, this project provides a possibility for visitors to engage with representations of the natural world and gain insights into the lives of these insects. Through a combination of virtual reality, projection mapping, immersive information, sensory engagement and scanned data from natural sciences collaborators, we can discuss the gain of a deeper appreciation for the beauty and complexity of the natural world. By enabling participants to view the world from a butterfly's perspective, it might fosters a sense of empathy and understanding for the delicate balance of ecosystems. Furthermore, the immersive nature of the experience is likely to resonate with audiences of all ages, fostering a greater appreciation for the natural world and inspiring conversations about environmental conservation.
