Text

n the PEEK research project Conceptual Joining, among other things, a construction principle of joined bars, the Kigumi system, was developed. In a case study of a table, this was further investigated in order to test a modular approach, concrete usability and the implementation of flat components. In each of the T-1 and T-2a versions, the table tops were fixed with screws; in the T-2b version, a technique was developed in which the table top is considered not only as a usable surface but also as an essential component of the structural system. To stabilize a substructure of rods, a precision CNC-machined plywood plate with special cutouts was placed on the tops of the intersecting rods to hold them in place. The tables were in use in the exhibition at the World Wood Days 2019, at the Angewandte Festival 2019, in the exhibitions Understanding Arts and Research at MAK 2019 and the Conceptual Joining show at AIL 2019, at the summer party 2020 at the housing project Grätzelmixer, 1100 Vienna and currently two of the prototypes are used at Café Feldhase, 1100 Vienna as a display and as a café table.
