The BUT Waste Action Plan is a community-based curatorial project aimed at addressing environmental and social issues caused by domestic waste. It uses everyday objects as the starting point and engages the public through curatorial methods to enhance ecological awareness using cultural and artistic means. In a culture of consumerism, the lifecycle of garbage begins with the producers of commodities. Consumers are directly responsible for producing garbage and for practising garbage reduction, sorting, and transformation. In simple terms, the act of buying, using, and disposing of creates waste before it is recycled, buried, or incinerated. In essence, we are once again discussing the daily actions of buying, using, and throwing away.
