2026W, Artistic Seminar (SEK), 4.0 ECTS, 4.0 semester hours, course number S51324

Description

Thursday, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Correspondence – On Making and Grasping, on Collecting and Passing On: A thread is tensioned, loops are interlinked, and surfaces are sewn together. Textile processes serve as a model for how form emerges from connection—a form capable of receiving, transforming, and carrying things forward. Beyond its material structure, textility thus becomes tangible as a relational, process-based logic of connection: a way of thinking, working, and mediating.

In this seminar, textile containers—such as a bag, a net, or a pouch—are developed by connecting various elements. The structure receives, holds, and carries—changing through use, movement, and the very things it contains. The form does not follow a preconceived notion but evolves continuously through engagement with material, tools, the body, and space.

Practical explorations serve as the starting point for an inquiry that emerges directly from the act of making. The concept of "correspondence" directs attention to the interplay between material, perception, and action: through the processes of repetition, alteration, and disruption, they react to one another and steer each other in new directions. Insight arises from moving in tandem with materials and processes.

Taking this textile practice as a starting point, the seminar examines the container as both an artistic form and a mode of working. What happens when collecting, connecting, and carrying become forms of artistic practice, research, and mediation? What relationships emerge between inside and outside, between the carried and the carrier, and between material, perception, and action?

The textile container embodies an alternative to the isolated object: it represents a way of collecting, connecting, and carrying forward things, experiences, and stories. It creates a space where something can be received, transformed, linked, and made accessible to others.

Participants will derive individual artistic inquiries from these explorations and deepen them over the course of the semester. In a final joint presentation, we will attempt to convey processes, experimental setups, and results—both material and immaterial.

No prior knowledge is required to participate in the seminar; what matters is a willingness to explore materials hands-on and engage with open-ended processes.

Examination Modalities

Regular and active participation, development of an artistic project, presentation, and submission of a brief digital documentation
