The seminar focuses on the anthology *Was war Faschismustheorie?*, edited by Morten Paul, which was published by Verbrecherverlag in 2026 in print and as open access (https://www.verbrecherverlag.de/shop/was-war-faschismustheorie/). Both the volume and the seminar proceed from the premise that fascism is back and ask what we are to make of this diagnosis of our times. Historical fascism, too, did not appear suddenly—which also raises the question of the processes of fascistization. The anthology turns its attention to the more than century-long history of fascism theory itself: “Rather than hastily offering yet another interpretation, it sheds light on its controversies and ruptures, its blind spots and forgotten insights.” It is on these points that the theories of the past remain particularly productive today. To ask what fascism theory was, then, means exploring the not always straightforward relationship between understanding and prevention. The book *What Was Fascism Theory?* is aimed at everyone who not only wants to talk about fascism but also wants to discover what form this discourse must take in order to become anti-fascist.”
