This course is part of a series started with Anne Faucheret during the 2022-23 academic year. It examines understandings of communities and the conditions that form them. Throughout its various iterations, the series has examined ideologies of separation, bordering, and insularization, as well as how practices of solidarity generate different forms of belonging. The most recent iteration considered whether community can be understood beyond the human realm through our relationships with the vegetable world, addressing the question of how we communicate with plants and how they communicate with us.

During the winter term, the Ghostly Memories/ (Re)Sites iteration will explore how the past continously shape the present, and ultimately, our understanding of community. Designed as a four-day, practice-based workshop, the course will offer an intensive environment in which to develop and produce work exploring these questions. Through practical experimentation, the course will explore how artistic practices can engage with inherited histories and challenge pre-existing notions of belonging. This exploration will serve as a means to examine our relationship to the world and imagine other possible futures.
