Beschreibung

This course (re)introduces the main tools, themes, and tenets of academic working. 

It will consist of three core components:

 

I. On Academic Language, or: “the Promise of Belonging” (Bammer)

= presents the basic premises and principles of academic language, including the “four C’s”: communities, communication, communicability, conventions

II. On Academic Writing, or: “a form of selecting, arranging and presenting knowledge” (Tuhiwai Smith)

= focuses on norms, features, and strategies of/in academic writing, including definitions (what it is) and delimitations (what it is not)

III. On Academic Research, or: between “methodological universalism“ (Talpade Mohanty) and “ecologies of knowledges” (de Sousa Santos)

= discusses the core parameters of academic research, including: methodologies and methods, research questions and topics, citation and citation systems, academic integrity

Prüfungsmodalitäten

 Continuous assessment, including participation and reading/writing/research assignments
