Beschreibung

This course continues a participatory and liberatory pedagogical practice conceptualised by the course leader since 2023: ars sciendi : www.instagram.com/ars_sciendi/

This iteration of ars sciendi focuses on ante/anti-colonial ways of knowing. It responds to increasing interest in colonial histories and their ongoing effects by exploring not only how colonial frameworks shape knowledge production, but also how we can position ourselves within, beyond, and outside of these frameworks to find other ways of understanding, creating and relating.

By providing expansive and inclusive understandings of art and science as not (only) outputs, but as methods of knowing, the course explores how knowledge is produced, shared, challenged, and transformed.

The course explores questions around:

  • how colonial histories continue to shape what is recognised as knowledge, and how we can learn from practices that have resisted colonial frameworks?
  • how ideas of time, modernity, civilisation, and progress are constructed, and what other temporalities and narratives become possible when these frameworks are questioned
  • how language shapes what can be known, and how naming, classification, and categorisation influence our understanding of the world
  • how knowledge can be approached as a collective, relational, and situated practice rather than something produced in isolation
