Beschreibung

Structural Design B focuses on the qualitative analysis and integration of structural engineering and structural design in a well known and well documented building. The aim of the course is for students to understand how structure is used as part of the design, how structure shapes architecture and tectonics and how different structural systems find their reflection in architectural form.

Students are expected to work in groups, each group choosing one example building.

Over the semester, students will do the background research necessary for the required qualitative analytical work, demonstrate their understanding of the principles and develop these further in regular reviews. We strongly encourage the use of physical study models.

Prüfungsmodalitäten

The successful participation in the course will be based on the following criteria:

1.) The active participation of the students during the lectures and reviews. For this, physical presence at the dates shown is essential.

2.) The successful completion and presentation qualitative analytical work, demonstrating an understanding of the principles and concepts of the integration of structure and architecture and their successful interplay. We will expect a summary document that brings this together to be submitted at the end of the semester.

Anmerkungen

The course is complemented by Structural Design A, which will explain the technical and conceptual understanding necessary for Structural Design B.
