Beschreibung
The objective of the lecture is to collectively develop fundamental theories, principles and approaches for understanding various aspects of the complex relationship between us and our natural environment.
By means of examples, discussion and practical exercises in the form of homework assignments some of the following topics will be developed:
• The term "Nature"
• Fundametals of environmental physics: Matter, Force and Energy
• Energy flow; The water cycle; The carbon cycle
• Social Metabolism and Material Flows
• Carbon Footprint
• Climate Change
• Critical examination of ecological innovation
• Media representation; Corporate bullshit; Greenwashing
Note that this list is subject to change, depending on the course of the discussion and collective interests of the student group.
Prüfungsmodalitäten
For the successful completion of the course the following criteria will be used:
• Constant and punctual participation (min. 80% attendance required)
• Submission and presentation of assignments (min. 80% of assignments required)
• Active participation in the discussion
Anmerkungen
A preliminary discussion will be held on 07 October 2026. On this date the contents and modalities of the lecture will be discussed. To take this class, attendance at the prelimiary discussion session is required.
