Design the Antidote
Every major app today uses AI to keep you scrolling, clicking, and buying — through recommendation feeds, manufactured urgency, and manipulative social signals. These are AI-powered dark patterns: interface tricks designed to exploit your behaviour rather than serve your needs.
In this course, you pick one. You analyse how it works, why it works, and who it harms. Then you design the ethical alternative — an interface that serves the same core user need, honestly.
Students design and vibe-code an app prototype. Following the design thinking process, you develop a concept, test it, and build a working digital prototype — using AI tools to generate UI and interactions as you go. No coding skills required; the prompting is the craft.
Also, we will have UI/UX designers to talk about how AI has transformed their work — what they've lost, what they've gained, and what it means to design when the tools can design back.
In the project-based course, students will gain knowlege on:
- Design thinking from research to working prototype
- Vibe coding: build real interfaces through AI prompting, no code background needed
- Critical lens on persuasive design and AI ethics
- Guest conversations with practitioners navigating AI in their daily work
- Students can work with a prototyping tool of choice (most likely Figma)
The course is for Students interested in Interface design (UI/UX) and Gamification. Please note: Students of "Design and Narrative Media" have priority for enrollment.
