The Kunst und Prozess project seminar is conceived as a collective happening.

The focus of our experimental investigations this semester and in those to follow is Baruch Spinoza’s text *Ethics* (1677), his understanding of the interconnection between humanity and nature, and the significance of the passions – ideas – reason – freedom, etc., as the foundation and questions underlying ethical action. The space at the Angewandte serves as both a catalyst and a testing ground for ideas and speculations at the intersection of art, aesthetic education and artistic research, enabling us to explore possibilities for rethinking the relationship between humans and the world around them.

Building on this action-oriented understanding of artistic practice, we explore situational perception. Through experimentation and design, we examine art education as an audio-visual and sonic act, and utilise the performative format of the ‘Audio Paper’ as a collaborative research format.

We understand art as a practice in which perception, emotions (affects) and insight are intertwined. The Audio Paper serves as a sensory and performative artistic (research) format, in which insight can be gained not only through text, but also through sound, voice, atmosphere and aesthetic experience, for the development of independent works.

As a starting point, we will explore together the possibilities for critical, experimental, poetic and caring agency in the context of current social changes.

Ongoing, active participation; participation in the FORUM; production of your own audio paper

In this seminar, students develop and test their own ‘audio papers’ as a format for artistic research. As a potential presentation and final project format, it also offers (teacher training) students a practical application both during their studies and in a school context. Art and design take shape in a situational, contextual and interdisciplinary manner, thereby opening up avenues to artistic research for schools as well.

“On Poetic Knowledge”  Workshop with Bradon laBelle

Poetic knowledge is posed as a framework for elaborating creative methodologies and research practices attuned to holistic futures. In tension with dominant knowledge economies, and the obligation to work at forms of production as artists and researchers, we’ll explore poetics and poetic knowledge as sympathetic forms which open onto restoring connections across human and more-than-human worlds. By grounding us in our bodies and environments, as well as through supporting forms of “cosmic connection”, poetic knowledge emerges as a “grammar of animacy” which, as Robin Wall Kimmerer argues, is key to becoming indigenous to place. To elaborate our understanding of poetic forms of knowledge, we’ll also consider in what ways listening participates; as Kimmerer highlights, it is imperative that we learn to listen to the plants, the winds, the waters, so as to restore forms of ecological relations, becoming what indigenous activist Ailton Krenak further calls a “planetary citizen”. Moving between poetic knowledge and listening practices, we’ll work at finding ways of instituting a poetic approach to our teaching and research practices, to ultimately map a cosmic sense of life.
