Description

Physical Computing – Fundamentals for Creative Practice and Interactive Installations

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of electronics and programming and lays the technical foundation for interactive and media art projects. Starting with simple soldering exercises and basic electronics, students gradually explore the world of microcontrollers and minicomputers.

In the area of programming, the fundamentals of Processing and Python are taught—the latter also using Vibe-Coding to quickly create functional prototypes with the help of AI-powered tools and to develop an intuitive understanding of code as a creative medium.

Using Arduino microcontrollers, participants learn to connect and control sensors and motors, enabling them to create simple interactive objects and installations. The Raspberry Pi is also used to complement these activities: here, the focus is on connecting input devices and sensors as well as playing back videos, allowing students to implement multimedia and computer-based installation concepts.

The course thus provides a practical technical foundation that enables students to apply electronic components, programming, and computer technology specifically to their own artistic projects.
