Description
Topographies of the independent performing arts in Vienna
Between artistic practice, cultural infrastructure and social positioning
How do independent artists in the performing arts work in Vienna? Which venues, networks and modes of production shape the city’s independent scene? How are productions created, which venues and networks form the scene, and which aesthetic and social issues are explored on stage?
And: what does ‘independent’ actually mean?
This course offers an insight into the diverse landscape of the independent performing arts in Vienna. The focus is on artistic working methods, production conditions, venues, funding structures and current aesthetic and social issues. In addition to examining selected positions and projects, the course will also include a visit to a performance.
