Design Entwurf 2.0

Description

The semester project focuses on designing a seating object in conceptual reference to the Danish furniture manufacturer HAY.

The chair serves as a condensed design challenge — a test for construction, proportion, ergonomics, material, joinery, manufacturability, and cultural significance. Precisely because the chair is an archetypal object, it is particularly well suited to explore questions of posture, responsibility, and precision in industrial design. No other piece of furniture has been reinterpreted as frequently as the chair; hardly any other object has occupied, and continues to occupy, a comparable position at the center of design, formal, and cultural observation.
Further detailed information and key dates can be found in the briefing.

Examination Modalities

Regular attendance and active participation in the weekly group meetings, workshops, and related course activities are core components of this course.
The project must be presented on three occasions: the concept presentation, the midterm presentation, and the final presentation. Presentations rely on physical models at a scale of 1:1 or 1:5, with no use of screen-based presentations.
Assessment considers the relevance and quality of the project (outcome and process); creativity, care, and technical refinement in models or prototypes; clarity of presentation; independence and engagement in the process; critical reflection and research depth; originality and experimentation.

Comments

This course must be completed as individual artistic tuition in the  second stage of the Industrial Design  program. It is intended for students of Industrial Design 1.
