DESIGN A CHAIR

Designing a chair is almost a cliché — yet no object carries more design history, symbolism, and expectation. Chairs hold the weight of bodies and ideas: from thrones and benches to folding stools and ergonomic machines. They signal comfort, power, exclusion, rest, and resistance.

This summer semester we invite you to design and build a chair. Your chair can be functional, dysfunctional, absurd, poetic, political, or deeply personal — as long as it reveals a position, or ask a question or … We will share other possibilities at the start of the semester.

You can work with any material or process. The outcome should be a 1:1 prototype — stable enough to sit on and exhibit safely.

There will be three key touchpoints include Midterm review, Design Freeze and final jury.
