3D Modelling - Maya

Design, Computer Studio
2026S, Lecture with Practical Exercises (VU), 1.0 ECTS, 1.0 semester hours, course number S20427
Description
The functions of basic tools and organizational structures are explored using practical examples. Another aspect is the teaching of typical approaches and strategies for working with 3D modeling programs, such as polygonal and parametric modeling (working with polygon objects and freeform shapes), creating layer structures, working planes, using material settings and textures, and photorealistic rendering techniques. Currently, the course uses the 3D software Maya, a program that significantly shapes the industry standard in the film and animation sector. The ease of producing even complex models, as well as extensive possibilities for time-based, parametric linking of polygon shapes, freeform surfaces, etc., are offset by a somewhat lower focus on dimensionally accurate spatial work. For achieving fast and appealing results for presentation purposes, Maya is certainly one of the most powerful programs in this field.
Examination Modalities
The evaluation of learning progress takes place within the course units and forms the basis for grading.
