Writing is one thing, but how does a manuscript actually land with publishers and journals? How do you launch your own publishing project? Who, within the realms of literary criticism and juries, decides on visibility and recognition? And how much self-marketing is required to sustain a career as an author? In this seminar, we will reflect on how best to observe the industry, connect with experts via live video calls in the classroom, and practice essential industry skills. Block 1 (»The Publication«) focuses on publishers and journals, the work of editors and editorial boards, and the practice of submitting work. Block 2 (»The Recognition«) examines prizes, juries, and literary criticism. Block 3 (»The Hustle«) deals with the reality after the debut: readings, grants, agency contracts, and online presence.
