2026S, artistic Seminar (SEK), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S05969

Description

Scientific Visualization explores the art and science of turning scientific data into visual experiences that support insight, interpretation, and communication. Blending analytical accuracy with artistic sensibility, the course examines how visual perception, aesthetics, and design choices shape the way we understand data.

Topics include the visualization pipeline, color and form, spatial and temporal data, uncertainty, and the critical evaluation of visual representations. Creative exploration encourages students to experiment with visual metaphors, storytelling, and emotional impact. The course also introduces a range of presentation contexts—from traditional screens and the roots of the Science Visualization Lab in TV documentaries to international successfully immersive installations—highlighting how visualization can function as both a scientific instrument and an experiential artwork.
