Description

Digital technologies and artificial intelligence increasingly structure social realities and political conditions. Meanwhile, demands for recognition and representation of marginalized groups are becoming ever more prevalent in social discourse.

This seminar deals with the intertwining of technology, identity, violence, and aesthetics in the 20th and 21st centuries. Using works of art, theoretical texts, and music videos, we examine in particular the central areas of tension between lesbian, queer, and transgender ways of life, racism, post-colonialism, artificial intelligence, and fascist identity politics.

Examination Modalities

 

1. Oral presentation, i.e., presentation of one of the texts discussed in the seminar. Co-presentations are also possible. Assignment and assistance during the introductory session.

2. Written elaboration of the oral presentation as a seminar paper in accordance with academic standards.

3. Active participation: In each session, we will discuss both the works of art presented and the relevant literature. It is important to come prepared, i.e., to read the literature carefully, take notes, and prepare at least one critical question for each text.
