Visual representation of political territories

How is our perseception of space today? How is it influenced by war, clima catastrophe and the race for rare metals? 

It is no longer possible to ignore the fact that the discourse surrounding the phenomenon of globalization, so relevant to numerous critical art projects, has been superseded by the real, military struggle for territory. However, this is not a return to the 19th century as an age of imperial ambitions, as is often claimed. Rather, we find ourselves at an intersection where armed conflicts and the taking of human life occur on a level comparable to computer games.

At the same time, art projects—particularly since the late 20th century—have been seeking critical approaches to the socially relevant phenomena of space, territory, and the state. This is because they often deal with hegemonic concepts, which are being critically examined from an artistic perspective.

Examination Modalities

 

  • Attendance, participation, and the development of individual ideas are key.
  • The goal is to develop something complete, tangi
  • At the end of the seminar the participants are required to answer three questions on the topics and artworks discussed. These will determine the final grade.
