Global Contemporary Art (Kunstgeschichte 4)

Barbara Reisinger
Institute of Studies in Art and Art Education, Art History
2026S, Vorlesungen (VO), 2.0 ECTS, 2.0 semester hours, course number S05721

Description

The lecture covers  art from around 1945 to the present. In what way the works discussed can be regarded as "contemporary" (or even as "Art") is one of the questions this class seeks to tackle. Another line of inquiry concerns the adjective "global" that can be applied to art, the art market, and art history respectively. I aim to "provincialize" (Dipesh Chakrabarty) canonical histories of Euro-American art with a focus on transcultural exchange and microhistorical case studies.

Examination Modalities

Written exams will be held on June 29, October 5, and October 27 (see Termine/Dates). Questions will be provided in both German and English, and can be answered in either language.

Comments
