Methods of Book Design – This course builds on the introductory “Fundamentals” course. The content covered there is expanded upon and put into practice. In addition to the practical exercises, the course also includes field trips.

The staging of an idea is made visible through the medium of the book. Conceptual design, content, structure, form, experimenting with type, materials, paper, binding …

As a foundation, it is recommended to attend the course “Book Design: Type, Book, Paper – Fundamentals.”

Both courses take place on Wednesday mornings every other week, alternating with each other.

Continuous attendance and active participation in the course. The short exercises produced individually or collaboratively during the course form part of the assessment and will be evaluated at the end of the semester.

Lectures and exercises take place in one of the available seminar rooms as well as in the Book & Paper workshop. More extensive projects may be continued outside of class. In principle, however, all work submitted for assessment at the end of the semester must have been supervised by me beforehand.
