Description

Artificial Media as Infrastructure

Artificial media no longer simply represents the world. Today it structures how the world is perceived, organized, and acted upon. Media now operates as an infrastructural layer, shaping behavior, attention, and social reality not through images alone but through processes, datasets, and operational environments. This course examines that shift: from image-based culture to system-based mediation, where the artist works from inside the infrastructure rather than observing it from outside.

Students will develop an understanding of how synthetic and computational media systems produce aesthetic experience, distribute power, and condition perception — and how artistic practice can function as both instrument and critique of those systems. Through discussion, analysis, and project development, the course treats artistic making as a form of infrastructural thinking: not simply responding to artificial media, but building with it, against it, and through it.
